LGIRS improving the health and safety of workplaces in Western Australia with Objective RegWorks

The Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) is developing a modern, world class regulatory environment supported by a specialist regulatory solution.

Objective Corporation’s RegWorks solution has been selected for the agency’s regulatory digital transformation initiative following a rigorous tender process.

The Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) is embarking on a once-in-a-generation digital transformation to improve the regulation of workplace health and safety (WHS) across Western Australia. LGIRS has selected Objective RegWorks as the platform to replace legacy WHS systems and deliver its new Compliance and Regulation System (CARS) – a move set to streamline regulatory operations, empower industry with digital self-service, and increase public trust.

LGIRS through its WorkSafe Group, is responsible for assisting the regulator in the administration of Western Australia’s Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Dangerous Goods Safety Act 2004 to ensure compliance with the legislation. These Acts and their supporting regulations cover all workplaces within Western Australia (WA).

LGIRS WorkSafe plays a critical role working with employers, employees and employee representatives to set up and maintain systems of work so that employees are not exposed to hazards. LGIRS goals are to:

  • Reduce work related fatalities by ten per cent and reduce the incidence of serious injuries and illnesses by seven per cent

LGIRS is undertaking a digital transformation initiative to simplify and standardise the administration of WHS regulatory functions, activities and processes.

The Challenge

LGIRS is grappling with challenges shared by many established regulators as they modernise and transform their existing systems:

  • Using multiple disparate legacy systems
  • A need for business systems that are fit for purpose and scalable
  • Administrative complexity, manual processing and a lack of automated processes
  • Managing and accessing data from multiple sources making analysis work complex

With growing demands for transparency, efficiency, and digital service delivery, LGIRS needed a technology partner to support their next phase of transformation. They went to market seeking a modern solution that would:

  • Be delivered as a true Software as a Service (SaaS) offering
  • Consolidate and replace multiple legacy business systems
  • Enable more efficient and effective management of regulatory compliance
  • Provide digital self-service capabilities for citizens to transact digitally with Government

LGIRS has selected Objective Corporation as its partner for the implementation of its Compliance and Regulation System (CARS). Objective RegWorks, a comprehensive end-to-end Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, is uniquely positioned to significantly improve how LGIRS will deliver WHS regulation of business and industry and foster greater public trust.
